Afghanistan has been facing difficult times for many years, The pandemic, poor leadership and a drought have meant over 18 million people, half the population of Afghanistan is in need of humanitarian aid. With 4 million people already displaced and a further 250,000 people fleeing to different parts of the country in 2021, many people will sadly die.
The Afghanistan Emergency Appeal aims to inspire people from across the UK to raise critical funds to provide food, water, hygiene packs and shelter. We are calling out to families, work colleagues and friends to get involved and help save lives.
We will be working with Islamic Relief for the Afghanistan Emergency Appeal. Islamic Relief have been working in Afghanistan for over 20 years and were one of the few aid agencies to continue working in Afghanistan during the military incursions, and their Kabul, Balkh, Jalalabad and Bamyan offices remain open today.
Recently, the Islamic Relief teams on the ground have distributed 13,061 food packs to the most vulnerable families in Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh, Bamiyan, and Kapisa provinces. Their Covid-19 response in Afghanistan has reached over 308,514 people, and they continue to raise awareness and support women facing gender-based violence.
